The 33rd Annual Prize-Giving Ceremony & the Grand Openings

 

The 33rd Annual Prize-Giving Ceremony & the Grand Openings of Tseung Kwan O Government Secondary School were successfully held on November 29, 2024 (Friday). This award ceremony was particularly meaningful as it not only marked the graduation of our students, but also celebrated the completion of various campus facilities such as the School History Corridor, Tranquil Pet Love Pavilion, Chinese Herbal Garden and Vibrant Heartbeat Court. The school specially invited Mr. Lai Yiu Wai, a Cantonese Opera Master, a graduate from the class of 2003, to be the guest of honor, adding a warm touch to the event. The ceremony commenced with the ribbon-cutting by a group of distinguished guests for the campus facilities.

 

Following a simple yet grand ribbon-cutting ceremony, the guests proceeded to the school hall where the graduation ceremony officially began. The hall was filled to capacity on that day, with guests from various professional backgrounds, alumni, principals from other schools, teachers, parents of students, staff members, award recipients, and graduates in attendance. The opening address was delivered by Principal Yiu, who inspired the audience with her speech. She reflected on the past year, highlighting the achievements of TKOGSS students not only in academic pursuits, but also in various competitions. She praised the students for their perseverance in learning and active participation in different activities, encouraging them to continue their efforts. Principal Yiu expressed her hope that the students would strive for excellence in both academic and non-academic fields in the future, contributing to society and repaying our country.

 

Following Principal Yiu's school report, certificates and trophies were presented to the outstanding students. After the award presentation, the guest of honor and alumnus Mr. Lai Yiu Wai shared his journey from TKOGSS to the performing arts industry, emphasizing the importance of respecting teachers, perseverance in the face of adversity, and being prepared to seize every opportunity. His lively and insightful speech elevated the atmosphere, creating a harmonious and warm ambiance throughout the event. Following that, Tse Wai Wan, the student representative from Class 6C, delivered the graduation speech. Wai-yan, last year’s Head Prefect who excelled academically and in character, serving as a role model for her peers.

 

As a token of appreciation for the guests' presence, the students then showcased impressive performances. Solo-verse speaking has always been a strength of TKOGSS students, with English solo-verse of "Come Camping" and Chinese solo-verse of《我看》. The musical performances, including the dance《雨澗春行圖》and the Chinese orchestra's rendition of《龍舞》seemed tailor-made for the joyous occasion. Finally, the school choir concluded the ceremony with "We Are the Day," dedicating the song to all attendees before leading a rendition of the school anthem with the entire school community.

 

After the ceremony, everyone gathered at the covered playground for photos, exchanging warm wishes and marking a perfect end to this year's graduation ceremony.
